# Mapping

Mapping decides which source column becomes which vocabulary key, which value identifies the record, and what business domain it belongs to. It is the point where raw data meets your [model](https://documentation.cluedin.net/model.md).

Property rules and pre-process rules shape values *during* mapping, before the record becomes a data part.

## In this section

- [Create mapping](https://documentation.cluedin.net/ingest/mapping/create-mapping.md) (how-to): Create a mapping for a data set so that CluedIn knows which business domain and vocabulary its records belong to, which original field becomes which vocabulary key, and which values identify each record.
- [Review mapping](https://documentation.cluedin.net/ingest/mapping/review-mapping.md) (how-to): After the mapping is created, review the mapping details to make sure that your records will be produced and merged in the most efficient way.
- [Property rules](https://documentation.cluedin.net/ingest/mapping/property-rules.md) (how-to): Property rules help you improve the quality of mapped records (clues) by normalizing and transforming property values.
- [Pre-process rules](https://documentation.cluedin.net/ingest/mapping/preprocess-rules.md) (how-to): Pre-process rules are applied to the records that are already mapped (clues).
- [Advanced mapping code](https://documentation.cluedin.net/ingest/mapping/advanced-mapping-code.md) (reference): In this article, you will learn about the possibility of introducing changes to your clues using JavaScript glue code.
- [Onboard datasets with an AI agent](https://documentation.cluedin.net/ingest/mapping/onboard-datasets-with-an-ai-agent.md) (how-to): In this article, you will learn how to ask an AI agent, such as the built-in Data Architect, to onboard datasets that you have uploaded to CluedIn.
